More specifically, this company leads 5 distinct divisions to specialize in a construction type—Custom Homes, Home Renovations, Build and Sell, Multifamily Construction, and Build to Rent.
It’s also handy for me that clients can physically access its design centre. Here, you can personally select finishes and see their applications.
I think it’s helpful that it provides a mobile app too! You can track progress on the calendar, review plans and selections, and collaborate with your project manager.
Moreover, I appreciate the team’s transparency. There’s usually a fixed price from the beginning, so you won’t get any hidden costs.
But what I’m iffy about is the cost range. This option seems to be premium or custom-oriented, which I reckon makes it more suitable for high-end clients. Some upgrades can quickly increase the prices too.

Peters Custom Homes is the kind of Charlotte-based home builder who can adapt to your lifestyle, family, and vision of refined living.
It does custom homes and renovations, and I love that it’s got a portfolio with lots of photos. This features elegant mansions, spa-like bathrooms, spacious and well-lit kitchens, and other sophisticated exterior upgrades you might like.
And since this company boasts a good track record in Charlotte’s fancy neighborhoods, this gives me confidence that the team has top-tier taste and high-end craftsmanship.
Plus, its design and build process involves helping clients choose their lot. In my book, that lessens the stressful journey of finding a proper site.
However, one client I had a chat with had a problem with timeline extensions with her bespoke build. While this can be inevitable, I recommend prioritizing this issue during initial consultations—especially if you want to stick to a deadline.

Vista Homes is one of my top choices if you’re searching for new, move-in-ready homes or building your own lot in Charlotte.
I’m mainly impressed by the fact that it works in the city’s most sought-after neighborhoods. You have plenty of options, like Plaza Midwood, Villa Heights, and Enderly Park.
It’s also convenient for me that the team is big on following a step-by-step process, so you’re less likely to get overwhelmed. You can tour the available homes and explore the finishes and features, giving you loads of insight before receiving a contract.
On top of that, this company has one of the biggest online photo galleries I’ve seen in the city! This can help potential clients see plenty of designs and colors which can be applicable to enhance their vision.
And if you need constant updates, I reckon you don’t have to worry because its team gives bi-weekly progress calls. A former client also told me that this company is usually quick to get back to inquiries.
But if you want a fully customized home, I feel this company might not be the most ideal. Besides build-on-your-lot homes, it offers only semi-custom ones, which have limited features.

From its name, Artistic Contractors has some of the most visually creative home builders worth considering. It specializes in modern construction, having designed some of the most unique and challenging homes in the greater Charlotte area.
Moreover, it’s incredible for me that it’s quite experienced with luxury homes. For me, the videos on its company website showcase how detail-oriented the team is in building high-end dream homes.
Another thing I like is that its team provides in-house 3D designs. This way, the experts can properly show you all the options available for the project.
It also takes pride in suggesting appealing alternatives for custom homes—the team likes to think outside the box! So if you think your idea is too quirky, I say think again.
Though if you aren’t that familiar with fancy, custom home building, I think its numerous selections can be overwhelming. If you’re seeking a quick, budget build, I feel it’s smart to consider other options too.

Should you want a fairytale-ish take on your custom home, Alair Homes Charlotte is one of my best picks. For one, I believe several of its past projects (like in Mockingbird Lane and Tremont Ave) showcase elegance and nostalgia.
But I say don’t be fooled by its old-school designs—they’re highly functional too! Some examples include kitchens with custom Dutch-made inset cabinets and a standalone jetted tub in the master suite.
I’m also stoked that its team doesn’t keep clients in the dark with the fees. All the budgets, trade quotes, and material costs are usually shared. There’s even a real-time online project dashboard for seamless communication!
But if you prefer to communicate via calls, there’s one client who told me about occasional slower replies during peak construction periods.
