We found them to be a solid choice if you’re looking for a wide range of non-medical support. From bathing and grooming to transportation and errands, their services cover many daily necessities beyond basic companionship.
Their memory care support is also a big plus, offering dedicated Alzheimer’s and dementia care. It provides structured support, thus helping patients stay safe and engaged in familiar surroundings.
The drawback? They don’t focus on medical needs, so if you need someone skilled in nursing, wound care, or medical treatments, then you’ll have to look elsewhere.

What we love most about PHC Home Health is that they’re certified by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which means they meet federal standards that allow Medicare coverage. Simply put, you can reap the benefits if you have Medicare and reduce out-of-pocket costs.
Their nursing care is a main highlight of their services. You can get in-home clinical monitoring, wound care, and medication management, which help avoid getting readmitted to the hospital—it greatly cuts down frequent clinic visits.
We also like that they provide physical and occupational therapy, especially for patients who want to regain their strength and learn adaptive techniques for everyday tasks. Both of these services can save someone from falling and can help them return to self-care.

We noticed that FirstLight Home Care has a strong local reputation; they’ve even been named one of Charlotte’s best home care agencies by Charlotte Observer readers for 2025 and 2024. This reflects their consistent and sustained satisfaction from local families.
It’s worth mentioning that they’re one of only a few in NC designated in the Positive Approach to Care method, which focuses on improving care for those living with dementia.
Now, one of the services we find really helpful for daily tasks is their personal care. Basically, they’ll assist with activities like bathing, dressing, mobility, toileting, and eating—this plays a big role in making sure the patient stays safe and maintains dignity.
But we’re a bit iffy after hearing some reports of caregiver reassignments, causing a sudden disconnect with the patient. Regardless, we have to give them props for having impressive on-time and shift fill rates.

They mostly handle non-medical needs, and we love how comprehensive their services are. Think memory support, diabetes and arthritis care, hospital-to-home care, and chronic condition assistance.
Speaking of memory support, we have to commend their team for undergoing training on safety and dementia support. Their caregivers know how to navigate patients with Alzheimer’s and dementia, helping them remain safe and engaged.
On the other hand, they’re not the top pick if you need frequent nursing or medical care.
But hey, they do deserve a nod for their companionship services. You see, we love how they include social engagement and mobility help since it improves mental well-being and everyday comfort, particularly for seniors.

One aspect that stood out to us when it came to Preferred Care at Home of Charlotte South is their highly personalized care plans. We appreciate how registered nurses assess patients at home and tailor plans according to needs, like safety and fall-prevention elements.
But we have to say that their home services really left a good impression on us. From meal planning and grocery shopping to laundry and pet care, they help maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable home.
We’re also impressed by their skills and expertise in providing dementia and Alzheimer’s support, carefully helping patients through routines and appropriate stimulation.
Complex medical needs may not be entirely met, though. They mainly provide non-medical services, so they might not be the best option for you if you need things like wound care.
The silver lining? They’re incredibly attentive, and we love that they make it a point to provide meaningful social interaction, help with outings, and engage in conversation and activities.
