The first two, I immediately understood, but as a kid, I never really cared about fashion, so I kind of forgot about the tailor part—until last month.
I scored an interview that required business attire, and, of course, I had to borrow clothes from my father since I don’t typically shop for suits. Long story short, I didn’t get the job because I was sweating like crazy, and I felt like my older brother was laughing at me from afar.
So, I enlisted the help of my team to scour Charlotte’s streets for its best tailors, so I’ll always feel like I’m actually wearing my clothes instead of the other way around. Continue reading to learn why we chose them and why they could be key to elevating your style!
What is the average cost of a tailor in Charlotte?
Tailors usually charge around $10 to $50 for basic alterations, while custom suits and more complex adjustments can range anywhere from $50 to $500 or more.

Myers Park Tailors is one of the most well-known options in Charlotte, primarily because of its 25+ years in the business. With that said, clients have shared that this experience also translates into expertise, as their altered clothes and custom suits would always turn out great.
Clients were also impressed with the turnaround time for their alterations, with simple adjustments taking less than a day. Meanwhile, full suits and dresses would take about 2 weeks, give or take, and after seeing the attention to detail poured into each piece, we understood why.
They also offer various bridal services, including bustle additions, hemline adjustments, and complete resizing. This is where their quick turnaround time truly shone, as some clients came in at the last minute and still got their dresses back in time.
Our interviewees also highlighted the overall fitting experience, which takes about an hour and includes expert guidance from one of their tailors.

Sumer Tailoring has become a local neighbourhood name thanks to its two-decade-long presence, despite its slightly inconvenient location. It’s your typical plaza business shop that shares parking spaces with a restaurant and other businesses.
The main reason why people keep coming back to this tailor for alterations, however, is the tailor’s premium-quality workmanship and impressive turnaround time.
Our interviewees shared that it didn’t matter which item of clothing they had refitted; the tailor would always alter it perfectly. They also shared that Sumer Tailoring is a one-stop shop for all things clothes, offering unique services such as restoration and minor fixes like zipper repairs.
We were also impressed that they offered true bespoke services done traditionally using hand-cut and hand-sewn fabrics. Speaking of, we also liked the variety and quality of their fabric selection.
The tailors also offered great guidance during fitting appointments for their bespoke services, which clients have noted as eye-opening.

Ruby Alterations & Cleaners was one of the most recommended tailors among our respondents because of the owner’s welcoming, mom-and-pop-style store. From our interviews, she treats each client specially and understands their needs deeply before proceeding with her services.
For instance, we’ve had interviewees state that they came in at the last minute with alterations to a suit or dress they were wearing for a special occasion. They shared how Ruby didn’t pressure them into paying more and still got the task completed in time.
We were also pleased to discover that Ruby’s accuracy in alterations was on point. Some clients offered before-and-after photos of their garments, and the results immediately made them look more elegant and classy.
Our interviewees also liked how she offered repairs for different accessories and clothing items, such as purses and shoes, making her a reliable tailor to go to for quick and cheap fixes.
The only downside is that she doesn’t offer bespoke and custom-made-to-measure services. However, she offers some of the most affordable alteration services in the city.

To get it out of the way immediately, Christie’s Alterations offers only alteration services. However, we felt like including it here because she’s nailed this service to a tee, with most of her previous clients we’ve spoken to highlighting it as transformative.
We’ve had countless interviewees who bought a clothing piece a size too big, and Christie was able to transform it into something that almost molded their body because of her accuracy.
They also attributed this to her in-depth measurement process, which involves measuring multiple dimensions of their bodies. Her 50+ years of experience were also apparent during this process, as she provided timeless guidance regarding fitting.
We also appreciate her welcoming demeanour, as most of her regulars share that she treats each customer like a close friend. Moreover, they shared that her making a mistake is rare, and if it does happen, she’ll happily take the garment to have it fixed.
The best in the business
“Christie does amazing work, and I absolutely love how she transformed my wedding dress. I bought a dress that fit my waist but was 4 sizes too small in the chest. In addition, I wanted the original triangle cups to be more of a sweetheart shape.
Christie was able to take in the entire chest despite the delicate fabric and sequin detail. She was also able to detach the lace straps, round the cups to create a sweetheart neckline, and reattach them to lift my chest. She literally created a whole new top half of a wedding dress.
In addition, Christie did a perfect job shortening my dress, which involved detaching the very detailed lace skirt, shortening the middle section, and reattaching.
Lastly, Christie was able to offer me a good price on all of the changes and complete a lot of work in about 2 months. Overall, I am ecstatic with how my dress turned out, and I felt confident in Christie’s work the whole time.
She’s an expert and the best in the business. You can tell right away, and I knew my wedding was in good hands right from the beginning.”

Did an amazing job altering my wedding dress
“Christie did an amazing job altering my wedding dress. I got it as a sample sale, so it needed some work. Beading needed to be sewn back on in addition to the alterations.
She put in special buttons underneath my dress so it could be bustled instead of having to wear a loop around my wrist the whole night.
On top of that, she was able to fix the tear in my mom’s veil so I could wear it for my ceremony. The level of care and customer service here is great! I would definitely use them again!”

Tina’s Alterations was recommended to us for its superb alteration services. We’ve even had interviewees share that their clothes were saved thanks to her masterful resizing service, which relied on a meticulous measurement process.
Regulars also shared that they continue to choose Tina’s Alteration because of her welcoming and no-pressure approach to each customer. She’ll even provide free tips and guidance on which type of fitting best suits her clients’ body types.
We were also impressed by how broad her alteration skills are, as she’s worked on various materials over the years, from leather to cotton and polyester. Clients also noted that they had never encountered a damaged item, regardless of the material.
Our favourite thing about Tina’s Alterations, however, is her impressive turnaround time. Her usual timeframe is already impressive, but we’ve had clients request last-minute alterations to wedding garments, and she’s pulled it off with a day’s notice.
The only downside is that her website is a bit outdated, and it would’ve been nice to see a ballpark figure of her services there.

“I was recommended Tina’s Alterations after purchasing my wedding dress from Vow’d. My dress was expedited from the manufacturer as an exception from corporate HQ, and I received the item before it was available for pre-order.
There must have been a lack of oversight in final item inspections, as the corset on the dress I received was not the same quality as the trunk show sample I tried on back in the Summer.
I had a standing appointment at Tina’s for a bustle, and during the initial fitting, the grommets on the corset began to fall out! I contacted Vow’d to alert them of the issue, but in the meantime, my wedding was less than two weeks away.
Tina and team went BEYOND my expectations to correct and create a more elevated look for my dress, and delivered their services in a timely manner. They created loops for the tie instead of grommets and even removed the cheap, solid fabric covering the lace.
