The 5 Best Tutoring Services in Charlotte That’ll Help You Ace That Exam!

tutoring-services-in-charlotte
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Qualifications: A tutoring center needs qualified educators with deep knowledge in various subjects to ensure they can answer any questions.

Programs: Not all students need extra help in the same subjects, so the more programs they offer, the more students they can cater to.

Teaching Approach: The instructor must adapt their teaching approach based on the students’ needs because it can help them absorb information effectively.

Flexibility: A student’s schedule can be busy, so offering different tutoring formats (in-person and online) will avoid the risk of absences.

Rates: Competitive pricing will always shine through for any budget, but most importantly, the rates must match the quality of service.

I like to say that helping my son with schoolwork is like teaching him how to drive—both of you are going to get stressed out, overwhelmed, and frustrated. There are just situations when parents need to take a step back.

And I did. Instead of drilling knowledge, I decided to get my son into a tutoring center that has the experience to actually teach—not force—him to understand the subjects (math is hard, you know).

It was one of the best decisions I made as a parent. Instead of getting high scores in games, he was getting A’s (and a couple of B+’s) in school!

So, if your child is lagging in school (or if you’re always arguing during a math homework), here are the best tutoring centers in Charlotte to consider. There’s nothing wrong with extra study help!

In Charlotte, Mathnasium is one of the most well-known tutoring centers, and rightfully so! For starters, it has over a thousand locations across the globe! Plus, they’ve got their teaching method down to a T!

They teach students from early childhood to high school, with a focus on math. It’s nice because it’s a tough subject for many, but that’s also where they fall short, since they don’t cover other subjects.

On the plus side, their teaching strategy has worked for learners of all levels. There’s even a 90% of students reporting an improvement in their grades.

It’s not surprising, since they adjust their teaching approach for each student by providing customized teaching plans. We like how they focus on understanding math, not memorizing.

Flexibility is also important here by providing online and in-person tutoring in Charlotte. They don’t pressure learners because there’s no homework involved, and they even allocate time for schoolwork during the tutoring session.

Pros

  • Known globally
  • Customizes teaching plans
  • Offers in-person and online tutoring
  • No homework involved
  • Adjusts teaching approach per learner

Cons

  • Limited subjects offered

Supportive and structured environment

This place has been great for my child

“This place has been great for my child. She was way below grade level in her math when she first started. In such a short period of time she has grown so much. I have seen her confidence grow and she seems to enjoy math and is not so afraid of it. I appreciate this place so much because they were able to do what I could not do. Thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️”

Located at the Arboretum Shopping Center, C2 Education is a convenient place to bring your kid for tutoring. There are plenty of parking spaces, and its location at the intersection of Providence and Pineville-Matthews makes it easy to reach.

The subjects they teach make them accessible to many students, from elementary to college. There’s mathematics, reading, science, and social studies, as well as preparation for the SAT, ACT, and AP Exam—all available on-site and online.

We were thrilled about their college admissions counseling, which we know can be nerve-wracking for students. It targets key subjects to help them get accepted into their dream colleges and universities.

Plus, tutoring is elevated even further with their summer and AP boot camps. These are basically test preps, but more intense yet worthwhile, which can help students refine their skills and knowledge.

All these services come at a price, though. Parents noted that they’re quite an investment, since they break the bank a bit more than other tutoring centers in Charlotte.

Pros

  • Easy to reach location
  • Plenty of parking spaces
  • Teaches elementary to college
  • Covers many subjects
  • Offers AP and summer boot camps

Cons

  • Pricey

What we appreciate about Tutor Bugz is their tailored learning plans, which are made specifically for each learner. And it works, since they cater to the student’s strengths and weaknesses.

From what we’ve seen, their tailored approach has helped many students improve in the areas where they were lacking. It’s also incredible that they teach a variety of subjects, such as reading, writing, science, history, and math.

Plus, there are specialty subjects here, like critical thinking skills, to guide students beyond the usual educational stages.

We want to note that their tutors come from diverse backgrounds, giving the learners the opportunity to have a deep understanding of different cultures. Aside from helping in certain subjects, it also gives them a broader perspective on life.

They’re also a flexible tutoring center since they’re completely online, providing better flexibility, regardless of location. But it would still be nice to have an in-person option for students who prefer the more structured, face-to-face format.

Pros

  • Tailored learning plans
  • Online tutoring; flexible
  • Teaches a variety of subjects
  • Tutors come from diverse backgrounds

Cons

  • No in-person tutoring

4. Sylvan Learning of Charlotte & Ballantyne

sylvan-learning-of-charlotte-ballantyne

Address: 11220 Elm Ln Suite 104

Contact: (704) 307-2981

Hours:

  • Monday – Thursday: 9 am – 7 pm
  • Saturday: 9 am – 1 am

Website

The personalized tutoring of Sylvan Learning is exactly why they’re on our list. They use the Sylvan Method, which comprises the learner’s assessment, school-aligned curriculum, and an adaptive learning plan.

They mostly provide group tutoring, so it’s a bummer that one-on-one takes a step back in this center. On the positive side, they offer online tutoring, and every student still receives focused guidance since they only do small groups.

It’s a little disappointing that they don’t teach college students, given that other locations do. But they still help with preparing for college, since they focus on K-12.

The subjects they teach are impressive, though. There’s math, reading, and writing, as well as STEM (like engineering and robotics), that will keep students engaged during summer or after-school hours.

During our client surveys, the parents we spoke with were happy with the overall tutoring service. They felt that their children gained more confidence and succeeded in subjects they were struggling with before—an outstanding result!

Pros

  • An adaptive learning plan
  • Online and in-person tutoring
  • Offers STEM
  • Focuses on small group tutoring
  • Focused attention

Cons

  • Doesn’t offer one-on-one tutoring
  • Doesn’t teach college students

The teachers are patient, knowledgeable, and truly care

“We’ve had a wonderful experience with Sylvan at Ballantine for our child, Sasmit. The teachers are patient, knowledgeable, and truly care about helping students succeed. We are noticing great improvement in Sasmit’s confidence and reading skills, and he actually enjoys going to Sylvan center. Thank you, Sylvan, for doing such a great job! ❤️1”

Our daughter has truly improved academically

“Sylvan Learning has a team of welcoming tutors that caters to your child’s learning style. Our daughter has truly improved academically and is more focused on her schoolwork. She’s young so we wanted to ensure we instilled the blueprint for her academic success. The Director and Co- Director are respectful and nice. They communicate well and listen to any concerns that we may have. I would highly recommend Sylvan Learning to any family who has a child or children that need just a little extra academic support. 🤗”

5. Best Brains – Rea Farms

Address: 9825 Sandy Rock Place, Suite C

Contact: (704) 941-0365, [email protected]

Hours:

  • Monday & Thursday: 4:30 pm – 7:30 pm
  • Saturday: 9 am – 12 pm

Website

It wasn’t surprising that Best Brains made it to our list. An after-school enrichment program with tutors who teach in nearby schools and learning plans created by teachers? Yes, we were there in a heartbeat.

Their tutoring program focuses on problem-solving instead of strictly memorization, which is a useful skill that students can carry in every situation. Plus, we appreciate how they encourage students to think outside the box, which builds confidence.

Small group tutoring is the primary format here, which wasn’t the best news for parents with kids who prefer one-on-one interaction. Nonetheless, every single student gets personalized attention from the tutor, since there isn’t a large group to teach.

Their programs include math and English, as well as preparation for the ACT and SAT. But what’s even more impressive is coding and the abacus, which encourages even more critical thinking.

The thing is, their tutors only meet with students once a week, and some kids need more interaction to progress further. On the bright side, learners do get daily practice at home and weekly feedback.

Pros

  • An after-school enrichment center
  • Encourages critical thinking
  • Focuses on problem-solving
  • Offers abacus and coding programs
  • Small groups only

Cons

  • No one-on-one interaction
  • Sticks to 1x a week meeting only

Outstanding center for kids interested in math and coding

“Best Brain at Rea Farm is an outstanding center for kids interested in math and coding. The teachers are patient, engaging, and truly focused on building each child’s confidence and problem-solving skills. The math program is well-structured, helping kids strengthen their fundamentals and think logically, while the coding classes make learning technology fun and creative. The center is clean, well-organized, and provides a positive learning environment. The Rea Farm team goes the extra mile to ensure every student progresses at their own pace and enjoys the learning journey. Highly recommended for families looking to give their kids a strong foundation in math and coding!”
