We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Qualifications – We checked their credentials and experience, given that they handle a person’s mental health.

Counseling plan – The counselor’s approach to crafting suitable plans for their patients matters, so we checked out this aspect.

Availability and scheduling – We chose clinics that can accommodate their clients on time, have flexible schedules, and handle each client session efficiently.

Track record  – We selected counselors with a track record of positive progress after every session.

Client care – It’s crucial to address clients with proper courtesy and acknowledge concerns involving their services or clinic.

Price – We listed clinics with reasonable rates, considering their pricing schemes.

Hear me out—I’ve got this theory that after all the COVID lockdown chaos, our brains and mental health got…permanently rewired. Lately, even my dark, nagging thoughts feel louder than usual.

What really made me realize I needed help was when it started taking over my day-to-day life: the mundane felt heavier, and nothing was really working. But talking to someone, an actual expert, really does help.

With that in mind, we’ve reviewed the best counseling services in Charlotte. Keep reading to find the one that fits your needs, whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, or something else entirely.

How much do counseling sessions cost in Charlotte?

Private counseling in Charlotte typically costs around $90 to $260 per session for a 45-60-minute appointment when paying out-of-pocket, depending on the therapist’s experience and practice.

Evolution Counseling Associates works with individuals, couples, families, and children. So, you don’t have to look elsewhere if multiple family members need therapy.

That said, they pretty much cover most issues, from anxiety, depression, and trauma to relationship problems, ADHD, personality concerns, and stress management. If you’re struggling with more than one, then you don’t need to switch providers.

It’s also worth noting that you can choose between in-person or online counseling. This means better accessibility for those who can’t make it to the location or have mobility issues.

We think their group therapy is a nice addition, too, especially if you want peer support. Plus, they accept major insurance plans like Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Optum, and UnitedHealthcare.

Just keep in mind that they’re closed on weekends. The good news is that their hours extend until 8 in the evening, so you can still squeeze in a session after work.

Pros

  • Wide range of counseling services
  • In-person and online options
  • Evening appointment availability
  • Accepts major insurance plans
  • Offers group therapy

Cons

  • Closed on weekends

Feel instantly comfortable

“It’s hard to find words to write a review for a therapist you love so much, so if you’re reading this… definitely connect with a therapist at Evolution Counseling. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Their house/office makes you feel instantly comfortable and their communication is better than any I’ve ever experienced. After searching and trying multiple therapists, we’re thankful to have found Rachel.”

Very positive experience

“Very positive experience with Evolution Counseling. I was able to get an appointment easily and the administrative assistant was very easy to work with. Callie, one of the therapists, has been very helpful and is accessible for any questions or issues that arise. Would recommend this office to anyone needing counseling services!”

You could probably tell by their name, Charlotte Women’s Counseling offers an extensive lineup of women-focused therapeutic services. To name a few, they work on pregnancy, postpartum depression, fertility challenges, miscarriage, and birth trauma.

We love the level of tact and care they show during their services. Having an all-women team also helps other clients feel safe and seen, and it’s just more relatable.

Their intensive EMDR therapy option is also another standout. And we truly mean intensive, given how it usually runs in 4-hour to 3-day formats to help clients process traumatic memories quicker than your typical talk therapy.

The catch? Some of their rates might feel a bit steep, especially if the sessions add up. To ease your financial burden a bit, you can try to check your insurance coverage; they accept most plans and help with billing.

Lastly, we think their walk and talk therapy is a nice option, particularly if you want to be surrounded by nature.

Pros

  • Women-focused services
  • Intensive EMDR therapy options
  • Offers walk and talk therapy (outdoors)
  • Teletherapy is available
  • Offers insurance support

Cons

  • Reports of slightly pricier rates

Truly compassionate and intuitive

“Jenny is a truly compassionate and intuitive person. Her natural instinct to help others was apparent during my very first interaction with her. When I talk with Jenny I know she is truly listening and genuinely sees me for my truest self. I am deeply lucky and blessed to have such a caring and kind person like Jenny in my life!!”

What caught our attention when it came to Self Talk Counseling & Consulting is how their counselors use multiple evidence-based methods like CBT, REBT, Reality Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. This variety helps them create better therapy plans and sessions for you.

We’re glad that they welcome all sorts of clients, such as law enforcement, veterans, adolescents, adults, and multicultural populations. Their know-how in handling high-stress professions is significant, especially for those with sensitive triggers.

Speaking of sensitivity, we’re also impressed that they address substance use, addiction, and behavioral health in counselling and education programs. If you think your issues overlap with this, then Self Talk is a dependable choice for help.

Price-wise, you might need to brace yourself a bit since they’re pricier than others. You’re looking at around $200 to $250 per session. Still, their track record and modalities for their session are worth the investment.

Pros

  • Uses multiple evidence-based methods
  • Works with diverse clients
  • Offers telehealth and courses
  • Support for substance use

Cons

  • Pricey sessions

Color us impressed; Fullscope Counseling Services has a team of professionals, such as LCMHCS, LPCS, LCPC, and LCSW-A clinicians with years of training behind them. You don’t get to see that kind of multi-licensed lineup from other places.

On that note, it’s no surprise that they’re able to use different methods like CBT, DBT, person-centered therapy, solution-based brief therapy, and trauma-informed therapy. We find this beneficial since you’re more likely to receive help that’s effective for your specific need.

We also appreciate their more admin-related services, such as accepting and assisting with insurance billing. That’s less hassle on your part and can make your sessions more affordable.

But, we do feel a bit iffy after hearing some reports of unresponsiveness, particularly with unanswered calls and unreturned emails.

Even so, we have to give them props for providing effective therapy. If you’re unsure, it’s a good idea to use their free 15-minute phone consultation to test the waters.

Pros

  • Diverse evidence-based options
  • Multi-licensed clinicians
  • Reliable insurance support
  • Free 15-minute phone consultation

Cons

  • Some report of unresponsiveness
  • Closed on weekends

Honest while being gentle

“Fullscope Counselling has been amazing. My therapist is straight forward and honest while still being gentle. I am hopeful I’m making actual progress rather than just going through the motions.”

Very professional and communicative

“Fullscope Counseling has been great. They are very professional and communicative. Working with them has been an incredibly smooth process with no bumps in the road. They take my insurance which has been extremely helpful since mental health treatment is so often hard to find and/or expensive. My therapist Tionna has been an amazing help to me and I am very proud of the progress I have made as a result of our time together. She is a great therapist and my anxiety has drastically improved since I have began seeing her a year and a half ago.”

You’ll be thriving after progressive sessions with Thriveworks Counseling & Psychiatry. And we love that their services are open for individuals, couples, families, children/teens, and more.

The aspect we like the most is their psychiatry services. They provide both talk therapy and prescription medication to get a more coordinated treatment if needed—all under one roof.

Also, unlike most of the ones on this list, Thriveworks is open seven days a week until the evening. This is a big win for those who are usually busy and have packed schedules.

Here’s the thing, though: you’ll have to pay slightly higher hourly rates for your sessions and follow-ups. We’re also quite concerned about their insurance billing, since some clients have shared that they’ve experienced issues like no coverage or claim benefits.

Nonetheless, they accept more than 360 insurance plans, so getting a direct line from one of their staff is a good idea in case there are insurance issues.

Pros

  • Broad mental health services
  • Available seven days a week
  • Offers psychiatry services
  • In-person and online options

Cons

  • Slightly pricey sessions
  • Some reports of issues with insurance billing

Holistic healing

“Patricia was easy to talk to and share with. She asked questions that brought out memories. I felt comfortable and safe. We are both strong Christian ladies. I like the idea of Holistic healing with mind, body and spirit. I loved her last advice to me as we were walking out. She said, be aware in your new study Bible when God is talking to you. Be aware. I felt for our 1st visit today that we had a good connection. Thank you God for connecting me with Patricia. I feel hopeful that there is a better life for me.”
