We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Expertise - We looked for dentists with strong credentials, years of experience, and a proven track record in delivering top-notch dental care.

Treatment Options - We made sure each clinic could handle a wide range of needs, from routine cleanings to more advanced procedures like cosmetic dentistry or dental implants.

Technology Adoption - We prioritised practices that use the latest dental technology—from digital X-rays to painless anesthesia—so your visits are as comfortable and effective as possible.

Patient Care - We paid close attention to how staff treated their patients, from the first friendly greeting at the front desk to making sure every question was answered and that follow-up care was offered.

I totally get it—nobody looks forward to going to the dentist. Honestly, I used to avoid booking appointments for way longer than I should have.

But after finally finding an expert I actually trust, I can’t believe what a difference it’s made. It got me wondering—how many other people are trying to find a dental office where they actually feel comfortable?

If that’s you, we’ve done the homework and put together the best dentists in Charlotte who’ll make you want to smile. Read on!

How much does a visit to the dentist cost in Charlotte?

In Charlotte, a routine dentist visit, including an exam, cleaning, and X-rays, typically costs between $100 and $180 for new patients, though lower-cost options exist for around $35.

Fees can vary based on the office, what’s included, and whether you have dental insurance.

1. Heather R. Dowlin, DMD – Charlotte Dentistry

Business Hours: Monday to Friday – 8 AM to 12:30 PM, 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM

Dr Heather Dowlin’s got that vibe where medical expertise meets a knack for straight talk. And knowing that she received training at the University of Pennsylvania gave us a sense of security.

On the tech front, their clinic invested in up-to-date equipment, which honestly makes appointments run more smoothly and a little less intimidating, especially when it comes to digital x-rays and same-day crowns.

Treatment menus here look more like a buffet than a short order as well, with Invisalign, cleanings, whitening, and even specialty care checked off. The best part: total transparency on options and costs, which means we’re spared the dreaded surprise bill.

On the flip side, it’s only fair to mention their appointment system isn’t the most reliable. Sometimes their confirmations aren’t sent as promptly as you’d expect, which can be annoying, of course.

That said, once in the chair, most people find the actual care worth the bit of back-and-forth.

Pros

  • Modern technology
  • Wide treatment range
  • Transparent pricing
  • Expert patient education

Cons

  • Slow appointment responses

Exceptional service

“I really love Charlotte Dentistry staffs. Dr. Dowlin (The best DMD I ever had) is my go to, Dr. William is awesome as well. Laramie is my hygienist who treat me very well and Alexis did a great job explaining the cost and scheduling my upcoming appointments. Alexis is so friendly, professional and efficient. Thank you Charlotte Dentistry team for providing exceptional service and for taking care of my husband and I!”

Caring and professional

“I just came in for a simple filling and Dr Dowlin was such an ease to talk to. She forewarned me of everything that I would be concerned about (some sounds give me anxiety) and she reassured me each step and constantly checked on me. I’ve gone here for a couple of years now but this was by far the best visit I’ve had because of Dr Dowlin and her dental assistant!”

Taking a spin through Piedmont Dentistry, we got a real sense of why Dr Grabielle is such a staple in the Charlotte dental scene. Her credentials from Hampton University and UNC Chapel Hill set the tone for the practice.

So we weren’t really surprised that they offer everything from general checkups and pediatric dentistry to implants, periodontics, cosmetic work, and oral surgery—all in one spot!

This definitely saves patients from driving across town just for whitening or cleaning. Dr Williams also keeps her skills sharp with memberships in dental study groups!

Because of that, there’s always something new on offer—like digital x-rays, promos, and flexible payment setups.

Feedback from folks we met in the waiting room was pretty upbeat about the gentle approach and how she explains stuff clearly before anything happens.

Plus, the extra care for nervous patients or kids goes a long way. Although we’ll admit there were some raised eyebrows over how often “additional” treatments get pitched.

Pros

  • Comprehensive services
  • Up-to-date technology
  • Flexible payment options
  • Clear patient explanations
  • Friendly staff

Cons

  • Pushy treatment upselling

Outstanding kindness and patience of the team

“I was a new patient in need of a root canal. Dr. Williams and her staff took time to answer my many, often times repetitive questions regarding the process. I appreciate their kindness and patience with me. The procedure itself was painless and I was chatting up a storm in a few hours (much to the chagrin of my family). Highly, highly recommend to anyone looking for compassionate care. Wish I could give them 10 stars!”

Quick and friendly team

“I started working in Charlotte recently, and broke a tooth. The office was able to get me an appointment quickly. Everyone there was super nice and friendly. Cynthia and Dr. Williams explained the plan for my broken tooth and were able to fix it same day. They were very clear with the expected costs, as well. I have already setup my follow-up and made it a new patient appointment as well.

Thank you all!!”

If you’re looking for a dentist who handles patients young and old with the same care, Dr Arnold Ma at Charlotte Family Dentistry definitely stands out. Walking into the office, we quickly noticed how much they value convenience.

This is especially evident with their same-day crown service, thanks to some seriously modern tech like the in-house CEREC system. It’s a game-changer for those who hate waiting for weeks just to get a tooth fixed.

Beyond basics like cleanings, exams, and fillings, Dr Ma’s team also covers all the cosmetic and restorative needs, so nobody has to hop around different offices.

Something that we appreciated the most was their membership club. With this, patients pay a low monthly fee and get routine cleanings, exams, an emergency visit per year, and discounts on other network.

On the downside, there have been reports of appointment data mix-ups. The good thing is that the office was quick to resolve scheduling hiccups when they happened.

Pros

  • Same-day service
  • Membership Club savings
  • Comprehensive care
  • Welcomes all ages
  • Flexible payment options

Cons

  • Occasional scheduling issues

Helpful and informative team

“I recently moved, but just told someone about how I miss my dentist! I loved this place. Everyone was so helpful, kind & informative. My hygienist left the practice, but she was like family. Dr. Ralph is a stellar dentist. I have anxiety & they worked so well with me. The ladies in the front always had me laughing. I never had such a good time at a dentist’s office. I wish I could take them with me.”

Personable and friendly dentist

“As a new patient I really appreciated my initial conversation and exam by the dentist. He was very personable and friendly! My dental hygienist also did an amazing job! She too was personable and friendly. I usually feel some missed plaque after the initial once over but everything was very thorough the first time. Thank you for a great first experience!”

Address: 112 S. Tryon St. STE 650

Since 1995, Dr Minka Hotic’s boutique-style office downtown has built a loyal following, and after chatting with patients and staff, it’s obvious why. She brings a rare combo of scientific know-how and artistry to general and cosmetic dentistry.

She’s known for her meticulous smile makeovers and staying ahead by joining dental conferences to absorb the latest in evidence-based care.

This is evident with the tools and techniques used, from CEREC same-day crowns to the most up-to-date Invisalign offerings.

We also appreciated the way they make every visit comfortable, offering eye masks and Bluetooth headphones, which helps patients relax during the procedure—a lot of regulars absolutely rave about it!

Sadly, they don’t accept insurance, so you’ll be paying out of pocket (though membership plans can help with costs).

Pros

  • Boutique-style care
  • Personalized attention
  • Advanced techniques
  • Thorough education
  • Comfortable atmosphere

Cons

  • No insurance accepted

Friendly and professional

“I had a great experience at this dental office with Dr. Minka Hotic. The staff was friendly, professional, and made me feel comfortable from start to finish. Dr. Hotic was thorough, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain everything clearly. The office was clean and well-organized, and the appointment ran smoothly. Overall, it was a positive experience and I would recommend this practice to others.”

Top-notch equipment

“Very impressed with the whole experience! Dr. Hotic was as thorough as they come. You can tell they invest in the best technology to improve patient care and experience. I have struggled to find a dental office that fit my needs and she came recommended by a good friend. Happy to have come across their office!”

Dr Christian Yaste is at the centre of Ballantyne Dentistry, and he’s got this mix of expertise and empathy we notice right away. Because of his own dental trauma back in school, he became genuinely passionate about making sure patients are comfortable.

His practice is big on utilising the latest innovations, from 3D imaging to precision-guided implant surgery, so treatments are noticeably more accurate and easier to get through.

Patients won’t just get basic cleanings, either. Their menu covers everything from digital dentures and porcelain veneers right up to full-mouth rehab, sinus lifts, and even advanced gum work.

Another cool thing is how accessible their staff makes the process, including text message support for appointments, free consultations, and even membership plans to help with costs. There’s also a Spanish-speaking dentist available!

Patients who shared their experiences couldn’t praise the comfort and results enough. One thing to note, though—the paperwork around insurance claims can drag a bit.

Pros

  • Advanced technology
  • Precision-guided implants
  • Wide treatment options
  • Experienced team
  • Membership plans
  • Free consultations

Cons

  • Slow insurance processing

Professional and friendly

“Dr Yaste and staff are so professional and friendly. From checking in and checking out, everyone cares that you have a good experience. Dr Yaste is open and honest and will address any questions and concerns. After 40 years at a downtown reputable dental practice, I have now found my new dentist:  Ballentyne Dentistry.”

Calm and patient dentist

“They were wonderful! From the moment I walked in until I saw the dentist. The dental hygienist was wonderful! They were able to fit me in for a procedure and she kept me calm as I have extreme dental anxiety. Dr. Yates was calm and patient! I would recommend them to everyone!!”
