Charlotte’s 5 Most Trusted Osteopaths for Holistic Healing and Real Relief

trusted-osteopaths
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Credentials and Experience – We picked osteopaths who have a wealth of experience in the field, demonstrating expertise in common concerns like sports injuries and back pain, while giving extra points to those with specializations and additional training.

Treatment Approach – We prioritized osteopaths who take a holistic, patient-first approach. From spending ample time during consultations to creating personalized treatment plans focused on long-term mobility and overall well-being, these practitioners go beyond quick fixes.

Value and Transparency in Pricing – We focused on practitioners who are upfront about their fees, clearly outlining what’s included in each visit. We also prioritized those with accessible fee structures, such as insurance or package options, to make ongoing care more affordable.

Accessibility and Patient Comfort – We reviewed the clinic’s ambiance and accessibility features, ease of appointment booking, and staff professionalism.

We’ve all been there, first pinning the blame on sitting all day, then side-eyeing the mattress or pillow. It wasn’t until I tagged along to my mum’s osteopath appointment that I realized it might not be the pillow after all… though let’s be honest, the posture isn’t helping.

Before you spiral down the rabbit hole that is WebMD, there’s a better solution: a skilled osteopath you can trust. Luckily, Charlotte has boatloads of trusted practitioners who can help you move better, sleep soundly, and live pain-free.

So if you, like me, have the spine of a shrimp, it’s time to book that appointment. And don’t worry, we’ve done the legwork for you and rounded up Charlotte’s top osteopaths. All that’s left to do? Read on and find the right fit.

How much do osteopaths in Charlotte charge?

Osteopaths typically charge around $80 to $200+ per visit, depending on the practitioner’s specialization, session length, and insurance coverage.

If you prefer a holistic and integrative approach to treatment, then you’ll appreciate Healing Arts Medical’s take on osteopathy. Their care goes beyond structural adjustments, incorporating manual therapies like acupuncture and nutritional counseling, to support overall wellness.

What we really like is how thorough they are. The first appointment usually runs about 90 minutes, giving the practitioner plenty of time to really understand what’s going on.

After that, sessions are a tad shorter, but still focused on long-term progress, with treatment plans adjusted along the way as the patient’s body improves.

It’s also worth noting that appointments are by reservation only, which can get tricky given how popular they are. Many of their patients praise how attentive their practitioners are, taking the time to dig into the root causes of concern.

They’re also a solid pick if you’re more comfortable paying out-of-pocket or submitting claims on your own.

Pros

  • Holistic and integrative approach
  • Longer, more personal assessment
  • Attentive and thorough practitioners

Cons

  • Appointments by reservation only and often fully booked
  • Out-of-pocket payments; patients handle their own insurance claims

Miracle Mokari we call him

“I have been bringing my son to Dr. Mokari for the last few years.  When he gets sick and congested we used to try everything to give him relief. One visit with Dr. Mokari and it would open up is nasal passages and give him relief.  Within 12 to 24 hours he would be a new kid!  Now we know to go this route first!  Miracle Mokari we call him in our home!    I have been having terrible neck, jaw and back pain so will be seeing him myself this week too!”

Truly caring doctor and he listens to his patients

“Dr. Mokari is the real deal.  I’m an active adult, I love playing pickleball 3-5 times a week or riding my mountain bike for 12 miles at a stretch.  My back went into a terrible spasm about 3 months ago and I’ve been unable to do anything really physical since then.  Ive been to one PA at the Spinal Center on Randolph (disaster) and then switched to another doctor so I could get cortisone injections, which were effective, but nothing was treating the underlying condition and I was failing at physical therapy.  Went to see Dr. Mokari because I knew he did prolotherapy.  Had the most comprehensive physical evaluation that I’ve had with any doctor since this started.  Dr. Mokari wanted to do several adjustments and see how I reacted to them before moving ahead, but yesterday came to the conclusion that it was an unstable SI joint causing most of my issues.  Had my first round of prolotherapy yesterday and I’m optimistic this is going to help me even if I wind up needing surgery down the line.  He’s a truly caring doctor and he listens to his patients and takes the time to thoroughly understand what is going on and provide comprehensive therapy and treatment that will fix the underlying problem and not just put a bandaid on the symptoms.  So glad I found him.”

With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Mokari is a trusted family medicine doctor, making him well-equipped to care for patients of all ages.

Dr. Mokari isn’t strictly the textbook type. He blends traditional medical training with osteopathic manipulative therapy (OMT). Hence, expect a more whole-body treatment approach, incorporating medical acupuncture, nutritional counseling, and prolotherapy, to name a few.

Overall, that’s why he’s such a solid choice if you’re dealing with chronic pain, ongoing conditions, movement dysfunction, and sports injuries that keep coming back.

And because of his hands-on and thorough care, patients aren’t just walking out the door with prescriptions. With Dr. Mokari, the focus is on taking the honest, patient-centered route, even if it’ll take a little longer than others, which can feel slow if you’re after instant relief.

Also, keep in mind that Dr. Mokari does accept insurance, but a quick confirmation beforehand can save you from surprises.

Pros

  • Holistic and hands-on approach
  • Integrative treatment options
  • Attentive and thorough practitioners

Cons

  • Potentially longer treatment time
  • Out-of-pocket payments; patients handle their own insurance claims

Dr Mokari is amazing

“Dr Mokari is amazing. He knows the body’s mechanics and musculature better than most orthopedic surgeons, and can keep you out of surgery and on the way to recovery with all the different expertise, talents and modalities he utilizes. In one visit, he took me out of an acute pain situation.”

He takes his time and actually listens to his patients

“Dr. Mokari is absolutely amazing. He correctly diagnosed something for me that I had seen multiple different physicians about. The doctors kept telling me it was something it wasn’t and he corrected the problem from simply looking at the area. He released pain in my back that I had been suffering with for many many years. He takes his time and actually listens to his patients. He’s not a pill pusher and truly tries to get to the root of the problem. He is worth every penny!”

If you’ve never heard of Novant Health, chances are you’ve been living under a rock. They’re one of the largest healthcare systems in the Southeastern U.S., especially in North Carolina.

And with that scale comes its perks. Novant offers a wide range of services, from pediatric care to emergency services, making it a solid choice for just about any healthcare need.

In Charlotte, the Novant Health Osteopathic & Family Medicine Clinic is particularly noteworthy. Here, DOs can treat both daily health issues while incorporating osteopathic practices to treat the body as a whole. Talk about a one-stop shop, right?

That said, because Novant Health is a huge system, your experience can vary a lot depending on the clinic, provider, or staff team. While some clinicians get glowing reviews, others have had their share of complaints.

Also, expect that wait times and response speed might vary, but nothing a little planning can’t help.

Pros

  • Wide network of services
  • Integrated primary care options
  • Dedicated osteopathic clinic

Cons

  • Varied clinic experiences
  • May have longer wait times

Such a positive experience

“Everyone here was SO NICE. It was my first appointment and they helped me set up MyChart and made sure everything was in order before I left. They were very kind, helpful, intuitive, I loved it!!! I don’t normally leave reviews even but I was like this was such a positive experience!!!”

Easy access, comfortable environment comfortable and affordable health care

“”This is by far one of the best doctor’s office I have ever been to. it is in a great location in the epicenter and they do validate parking which was a very good benefit. From the time I enter the door I was greeted nicely and treated with the utmost respect by all staff. They were so focused and they care about your time. My appointment was at 8 AM. and everybody was there before 7: 45 when I arrived and I was actually seen before 8 AM. Which was Fantastic and very important because I had to go to work. The receptionist, lab and nursing staff were very friendly and professional and the doctors personal touch was Superb! I will recommend anyone to this practice who wants top-notch care. Easy access, comfortable environment comfortable and affordable health care right uptown which is very convenient for me.

As a board-certified family medicine physician with an osteopathic foundation, Dr. Allen Seophard provides comprehensive care, helping patients manage chronic illnesses while also addressing aches, pains, and musculoskeletal issues.

What sets him apart? He really listens. Patients feel heard, and he explains conditions in a way that makes sense, so it’s not like chatting with a rock. His philosophy centers on individualized care, tailored to each patient’s goals and lifestyle instead of a one-size-fits-all treatment.

The best part? His clinic is open daily, with weekdays until 8 PM, perfect if you need care even after regular office hours. To boot, he accepts major insurance plans like Humana and UnitedHealthcare, to name a few.

That said, his focus isn’t exclusively on osteopathic treatments, which is something to keep in mind if that’s what you’re specifically after.

The good news is their affiliation with Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center means patients have easy access to continued care and easy referral options if needed.

Pros

  • Comprehensive healthcare system
  • Personalized treatment approach
  • Convenient hours

Cons

  • Not exclusively on osteopathic treatments

Best physician I’ve ever had

“Best physician I’ve ever had. He has NEVER rushed me even when he fits me into his schedule. He lets me participate in my care and speaks to me not at me. And as a bigger person, he has NEVER made me feel nervous about coming in and having to be shamed about my weight. He has always been respectful and so compassionate. Especially for people who are in a bigger body, if you want to feel seen and heard…. Dr. Shepard is your choice! 10/10!”

Dr. Emery Young Jr., D.O., is an osteopathic physician who looks at the whole picture: your body, mind, emotions, and lifestyle. So, you can expect treatment plans that are customized to support your complete well-being rather than just treating isolated symptoms.

And if you’re specifically looking for a practitioner who focuses on prevention, Dr. Young is the right choice. He also specializes in chronic disease management and provides guidance on weight management.

You can see Dr. Young practicing at Sensenbrenner Primary Care, which is great for standard primary care visits, or at MDVIP, which is a membership-based practice that’s ideal if you prefer longer, more personalized appointments.

That said, it’s worth noting that his availability may change without notice, so it’s best to give the office a quick call to confirm where he’ll be. Another plus is that he takes major insurance plans like Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield, though checking in with the office is still a smart move.

Pros

  • Flexible practice locations
  • Whole-person approach
  • Insurance accepted

Cons

  • Availability can vary
  • MDVIP membership required for certain services

Dr Young was great

“Dr Young was great. He listened to my extensive history without judgement and asked great questions about medications I’ve been on and what did ad didn’t work. Together we came up with a great plan that I’m very hopeful will help my overall health, energy levels and insomnia. Many drs do not want to discuss or prescribe hormones but Dr Young was very willing and definitely wants you feeling your best. I’m looking forward to continued treatment and feeling better soon. Highly recommend scheduling with him.”

Dr. Young was absolutely amazing

“I have had horrible experiences with doctors in the past that made me not see one for 10 years. Dr. Young was absolutely amazing. He listened to me and asked follow up questions. He made sure I was comfortable the whole time. He explained all my options to me throughly and let me know that if I needed him he would be there. I drove an hour and a half to see him and will gladly do it again. I never thought I’d find a doctor I felt safe and comfortable with until Dr. Young. I can not recommend him enough.”
