Her cues are clear, and her music is great

“JC is an excellent instructor! I’ve taken many of her classes, and NONE of them have ever been the same.

Iron Butterfly Pilates was recommended to us for its slightly intimate setting compared to commercial studios. Previous and current students shared how they like the studio’s small class sizes, as it allows instructors to give them individualized attention, even in a group setting.

They also added how the instructor’s attentiveness to each student’s restrictions and needs immediately made them comfortable taking classes here. Furthermore, these professionals would always provide a safe and welcoming space in their studio for every session.

The studio also offers a wide selection of classes, including a beginner-friendly option that’s a prerequisite to the studio’s regular group sessions.

We asked their students about this prerequisite and received mixed responses: some complained it’s an additional cost, while others appreciated how it helped them progress safely.

The studio itself is highlight-worthy, as it’s one of the most aesthetically pleasing ones we’ve seen. It’s spacious, features large windows that let in natural light, and is equipped with modern equipment.

Pros

  • Fun and engaging classes
  • Personable instructors
  • Convenient location
  • Individualised instruction
  • Beautiful and welcoming studio

Cons

  • Upfront newbie package requirement

Very relaxed atmosphere

“I was looking for a Pilates studio that was more personable and catered better to women who were postpartum. I knew I needed a program that was more private due to classes being a bit more intense for my liking.

I have never done Pilates before. My OB told me it’s the best workout after having a baby.

I researched for a bit and came across this studio. I didn’t want to do Club Pilates or anything like that place. So glad I pulled the trigger to go here, and I live in Fort Mill. So, not a bad drive depending on the time you go.

Everyone there is so nice and accommodating, and it is a very relaxed atmosphere. My instructor, Kathy, is so sweet and amazing. Been seeing her for quite a few months now. Definitely recommend this place to everyone who wants to start out doing Pilates.”

Instilled the love of pilates in me

“Iron Butterfly instilled the love of Pilates in me a long time ago and helped to keep my body out of pain. It was a place of community and serenity at a time when I needed it.

Almost 20 years later, after becoming a certified teacher myself, countless hours in a studio, and opening my own studio in GVL, I still hear Heather’s solid foundations in my head when I work out and teach.

Thank you for being the best foundation and catalyst for my passion and career! XOXOX. Miss you guys!”

Pilates By Hagar was one of our top picks, even though it’s a small studio, because of its instructor and in-depth, individualized classes. These classes are helmed by Hagar and offer one-on-one and small group classes, with impressive success rates.

We spoke to her students, who said that Hagar’s individualised approach allows her to provide the right workout routine for their needs and desired outcomes.

Hagar was also praised for her deep understanding of pilates, with most of her students sharing that she doesn’t just care about burning calories. Instead, she approaches with a holistic mindset that combines mindfulness with intentional movements.

The community of Pilates By Hagar is a bit small, but it’s one that impressed us with its welcoming vibe. Furthermore, the classes, being held in Hagar’s home, immediately feel like a bonding session with friends, as opposed to an intimidating class.

Aside from the aforementioned slightly cramped space, the only downside here is that there’s only one instructor available, but we’re positive you’ll love her.

Pros

  • Tailor-fit structure
  • Motivating and knowledgeable instructor
  • Welcoming and supportive
  • Impressive track record

Cons

  • Only features one instructor
  • Slightly small studio

Professional and personalized attention

“I train here twice a week, and I absolutely love it! This boutique studio offers professional, personalized attention throughout every session. Hagar’s focus never wavers – she constantly monitors my form and technique.

Hagar is an amazing, vibrant, and talented instructor! She’s also very flexible with scheduling, which I really appreciate. I can genuinely feel my body getting stronger and changing with each workout. I highly recommend it!”

We always appreciate it when studios try something new to keep classes interesting, and we felt like Core Innov8tions Pilates best exemplified this with their innovative sessions.

For instance, they offer a Reformer Konnector program that combines a pulley system to vary movement and increase core activation. Furthermore, we appreciate how their pilates classes are holistic by incorporating strength training, functional fitness, and mobility work.

We were also impressed to discover that the instructors can pay close attention to their students, even during group sessions. Students shared how instructors would adapt their classes based on their individual needs, strengths, and desired results.

Core Innov8tions is also one of the few studios that openly states that it welcomes a diverse range of people, from permanently injured athletes to women in menopause.

The only con we see when choosing this studio is the slightly steeper learning curve because of the unorthodox and innovative sessions they offer.

Pros

  • Innovative sessions
  • Variety of movements
  • Spacious and well-maintained studio
  • Personable and motivating instructors
  • Adaptive classes
  • Caters to a wide variety of students

Cons

  • Slightly steep learning curve

Great variety of classes

“Core Innov8tions has a great variety of classes from mat Pilates, reformer Pilates, strength classes, and TRX! They recently added more sculpt and strength + core classes to the schedule, and each class is a great push!

It is a studio that takes into consideration the mind and body connection, the importance of breath, as well as community outreach. Each instructor has their own variety of classes that they teach, and it’s a fun/welcoming environment.

I’ve been coming since June 2025 and have really loved the studio and getting to take different rotations of classes!”

– Sarah R, Google Review

At the top of their game

“I have been practicing and studying Pilates with Laura and Core Innov8tions since the studio opened 11 years ago, as a student and for a few years now as an instructor. I have bounced between many gyms, ballet studios, and private instruction until I landed here.

The instructors are at the top of their game, and the clients are the most friendly, welcoming group of people! We are very fortunate; you can’t go wrong here. Come join us!!”

IM=X Pilates caught our attention with their unique and patented Integrated Movement Xercize. It’s the only class they offer, but at the same time, it’s all students need, as it incorporates different machines and workouts, creating a holistic exercise for all levels of experience.

Clients shared how much they liked these sessions because of the challenge they pose and the satisfaction of completing them afterwards. They added how they enjoyed spending time in the Pilates reformer machine before proceeding to weight training, barre, ballet, etc.

We also like how the studio promotes beginner-friendliness. Some of our interviewees shared how they were patiently listened to by their instructors and provided courses that would help them adapt to the rest of the class.

The studio itself is well-equipped, featuring mats, towers, jumpboards, cycling machines, etc. Plus, it’s spacious without feeling too overcrowded during classes, thanks to the strategic layout of the machines.

The only issue we could see is that the integrated Pilates style that they offer may not be for everyone, especially purists.

Pros

  • Beginner-friendly
  • Fun and welcoming vibe
  • Intimate classes
  • Great selection of classes

Cons

  • Doesn’t offer “traditional” Pilates

Each session leaves me feeling stronger

“Pilates has been a game-changer for me. I went pre-pregnancy, throughout my pregnancy, and now postpartum, and it’s been incredible. Each session leaves me feeling stronger, taller, and like that girl.

Whether I’m pushing my limits or focusing on recovery, Pilates is the perfect balance of strength and flexibility. It’s more than just a workout—it’s been a consistent way for me to connect with my body at every stage, empowering me every time I step off the mat.”

– Essence LeGrande, Google Reviewl

The instructors are GREAT!

“I can’t say enough about IM=X Pilates in North Charlotte! Having suffered from chronic lower back pain for years, I’ve been scared to do any leg workouts like squats or jumps, and anything involving hinging at the hips.

Now, with an IM=X Pilates workout, I can have total back protection, whether it be in a ‘Tower Class’ or a ‘Xercizer Class’, and a total body workout.

The instructors are GREAT! They make everyone feel welcomed, comfortable, and motivated. Even in a full class, the instructors provide individual guidance to correct your form so you get the most out of your workout.

For the men out there, if you think this is just for ladies, you can’t be more wrong. My legs feel like jelly after a Cardio Interval Training on the Xercizer.”
