We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Qualifications – We checked their credentials and experience, given that they handle a person’s mental health.

Therapy plan – The therapist’s approach to crafting suitable plans for their clients matters, so we checked out this aspect.

Availability and scheduling – We chose clinics that can accommodate their clients on time, have flexible schedules, and handle each client session efficiently.

Track record – We selected mental health clinics with a track record of positive progress after every session.

Client care – It’s crucial to address clients with proper courtesy and acknowledge concerns involving their services or clinic.

Price – We listed clinics with reasonable rates, considering their pricing schemes, such as a sliding scale or fixed price.

You know, the other day my best friend pointed out that my emotions always seemed stuck at the extremes—I was either on top of the world or completely down in the dumps.

It caught me off guard because I never really saw it that way, but the more we talked about it, the more it started to make sense, even if nothing was instantly “fixed.” Sometimes, simply talking to someone makes a difference, and with the right pros, that support can go even deeper.

So, we reviewed the best mental health clinics in Charlotte to help you navigate your struggles and find the kind of care that actually fits your needs. Read on to see which one might be right for you.

How much does a mental health session cost in Charlotte?

In Charlotte, a standard 50-minute therapy session usually costs between $115 and $220, while an initial psychiatric evaluation ranges from $200 to $350. Others offer sliding scale, and some community centers provide for 0-$50 for those who qualify.

What stood out to us the most with New Heights Behavioral Health is their use of psychotropic DNA testing. Instead of relying solely on trial-and-error for psych meds, we like that they use gene-based testing to see how your genes may influence medication response.

In other words, you can get the proper and minimum effective dose to reduce side effects and ineffective prescriptions.

That said, it’s good to know that they treat a wide range of concerns. Think anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, ADHD, eating disorders, anger issues, relationship challenges, and mental health issues related to other health conditions.

For a more holistic therapy, we love that you can also count on their wellness support and coaching to help you address lifestyle and behavioral factors intertwined with mental health.

Just note that weekends are a no-go, so you’ll have to plan out your schedule accordingly. The good news is that you can also opt for video-based therapy, psychiatric evaluations, and medication follow-ups with the same standard as in-office visits.

Pros

  • Wide range of treatment options
  • Has psychotropic DNA testing
  • Offers telehealth sessions
  • Offers wellness support and coaching

Cons

  • Closed on weekends

Makes you feel comfortable with sharing

“I’ve been seeing Dr. Bostic for a few months now and she has been absolutely wonderful! She’s so down to earth and makes you feel comfortable with sharing. I like that she shares things in common with me which makes it very easy to talk to her about my concerns. I feel 1000 times better since seeing Dr Bostic and I am very grateful for her help!”

One of the best things Queen City Psychiatry and Mental Health provides is fast access to care. We quickly noticed how they can fit you in for a schedule in 3-5 business days or even in the same week, which is a big plus, especially for those who are struggling and need immediate help.

Speaking of struggles, the clinic is equipped to accommodate clients with ADHD, anxiety, and depression, while also supporting academic, workplace, and functioning challenges tied to these conditions.

The only thing we’re a bit concerned about is that the clinic centers on psychiatric evaluations and medication management, which may feel lacking if you’re after intensive counseling approaches like CBT or trauma therapy.

On a positive note, they have an extensive list of psychiatric and addiction services, including dual diagnosis care, opioid treatment (MAT), smoking cessation, and substance use treatment. This is crucial since mental health and addiction frequently overlap.

Pros

  • Fast access to care
  • Broad age coverage
  • Insurance-friendly clinic
  • Strong ADHD and mood disorder specialization
  • Wide range of psychiatric and addiction services

Cons

  • Less emphasis on long-term psychotherapy

Very nice and really helpful

“This was a very informative conversation about ADHD, I learned something new and a symptom called Restless Leg Syndrome. Daniel was very nice and really helpful, I give it a 10/10”

Their name being in plurals is spot on, given how Mindpath Health Psychiatrists & Therapists has a large multidisciplinary team made up of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and licensed therapists.

This increases your chances of matching with someone whose communication style and expertise fit your needs and condition. They can treat kids, teens, adults, couples, and families, addressing issues like grief, trauma, relationship stress, and mood disorders.

We also think it’s neat that they offer Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), which is an FDA-approved, non-invasive treatment for when depression or OCD doesn’t respond well to medication.

Here’s the thing, though: we noted some reports regarding difficulty in scheduling appointments, whether it’s an initial consultation or follow-up. You’ll probably have to call them first things and double-check to make sure you’re good to go.

The silver lining? Mindpath accepts many major insurance plans, such as Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, Humana, and others—a huge financial help.

Pros

  • Full-service mental health care
  • Access to TMS therapy
  • Wide insurance coverage acceptance
  • Large multidisciplinary clinical team

Cons

  • Closed on weekends
  • Some reports on scheduling difficulties

Finally felt seen and heard

“My clinician Tony was the first person I’ve seen in years who I feel like is finally going to help me get better. So many people in the mental health industry are jaded and don’t treat you like a person anymore. I finally felt seen and heard. So relieved.”

Mary Hill, Google Review

Genuinely care

“Great organization with carring people at ALL levels that genuinely care about the patient’s well being. I highly recommend Laura Eidem!”

We like how Pasadena Villa Outpatient Treatment Center provides structured programs for people who need more support than their average weekly therapy sessions. They focus on PHP and IOP programs, which basically mean several hours of treatment multiple days per week.

It’s worth highlighting that their treatment model incorporates methods like CBT, DBT skills, and trauma-informed therapy alongside experiential methods. For instance, some people struggle to express trauma verbally; experiential work can improve progress when talk therapy alone stalls.

Another option we appreciate is the family education and involvement opportunities they provide, especially for those who have loved ones who are yet to have a better understanding of mental health challenges and recovery strategies.

One drawback we did pick up from what clients shared is that some group therapy sessions felt disorganized and either rushed or too long.

Still, you can go for their individualized treatment and assessments if group therapy feels like an overwhelming time for you.

Pros

  • Great for those who need more support
  • Focuses on trauma-informed and evidence-based care
  • Has family involvement and support options
  • Daytime treatment

Cons

  • Closed on weekends
  • Group therapy can feel disorganized

Helped me get back my life back on track

“Pasadena Villa Charlotte is a great place. I complete both IOP and PHP here. All of the therapists are really nice, and the manager Justin is always really nice and welcoming to everyone at the front door every day. Pasadena Vila really helped me get my life back on track and I am thankful for them. 10/10 would recommend.”

5. Carolina Complete Psychiatry

Sometimes, quick and short appointments lack quality, so it’s nice to see that Carolina Complete Psychiatry commits to longer visits, with follow-ups typically lasting 20-30 minutes, compared with the norm of around 15 minutes.

You get a chance to discuss more about medication effects, lifestyle factors, and concerns instead of rushing through check-ins.

Another thoughtful touch is their holistic approach beyond education. They incorporate lifestyle changes and coping strategies into treatment discussions, leading to a more sustainable mental health improvement.

Medication-wise, we feel reassured thanks to their genetic testing to analyze how a client’s genes affect medication metabolism. A lifesaver for those who struggle with side effects or lack of effectiveness.

The hitch? While telepsychiatry is available, you can only start after completing an in-office evaluation, which can be a hassle and a major inconvenience for some.

Luckily, new clients are often seen within about a week, which is quite fast in a field where waitlists can stretch for months.

Pros

  • Known for having longer appointments
  • Holistic approach beyond medication
  • GeneSight genetic testing
  • Fast access to care

Cons

  • Closed Fridays to Sundays
  • In-office evaluation is required

Has helped me beyond words

“I am new to Carolina Complete Psychiatry and can confidently say I will not be going anywhere else! McCall has already helped me beyond words. I cannot ever thank her enough!”

Allison Dimino, Google Review
