If there’s one thing I can never say no to, it’s cake—seriously, my friends and family know it too! I’ve tried everything from wobbly jellies to towering sundaes, but nothing hits the spot like a thick, frosted slice (or two) of cake.
Whether it’s a birthday, a random Wednesday, or just a “treat yourself” kind of day, I’m always hunting for the next best bakery. Lucky for you, we’ve listed the best cake shops in Charlotte.
Trust me, these are the cake shops you’ll want to have on speed dial whenever a craving hits, or you need a last-minute celebration centerpiece. Read on!
How much do cakes typically cost in Charlotte?
In Charlotte, you can expect to pay about $6.50 to $12 per serving for a custom cake, with prices increasing based on design and size. For standard birthday or celebration cakes, prices typically start at $65 for a 6-inch cake.
Meanwhile, wedding cakes often range from $350 to $1,000 or more, depending on size and customization.
1. The Batch House

Address: 901 Berryhill Rd.
Phone: +1 704 574 3627
Business Hours:
- Wednesday and Saturday – 8 AM to 3 PM
- Thursday and Friday – 8 AM to 6 PM
The Batch House really got us hooked after just one visit. Stepping inside, it’s hard not to feel charmed by the soft colors and the ever-present scent of freshly baked Oatmeal Creme Pies—seriously, we love their “OCPs”!
Cristina, the owner and self-taught baker, just radiates warmth; she’s very welcoming, and the team’s vibe is just as inviting. We enjoyed browsing through their display, and she also accepts custom orders for simple cakes.
With that said, Batch House isn’t about towering wedding cakes loaded with sugar flowers, though. The cakes are humble but packed with flavor, and that’s exactly why regulars keep coming back.
Mini treats are definitely the show-stealer, especially for birthdays or get-togethers—great when everyone wants “just one bite” of everything!
In fact, we tried some, and the chewy-inside, high-quality treats totally live up to the hype. Now, a few trade-offs: Batch House keeps things straightforward—no elaborate designs, no delivery, and pre-orders are a must for larger batches.
Amazing sweet treats
“If you have never had Batchmaker, you are seriously missing out! Her treats never cease to amaze us, so much so that we have ordered both our wedding treats and birthday cakes from her! We will continue to support her because of her “people first” mentality and her love of the community! Support small and support the Batchmaker!”

Incredible custom cakes
“Her custom cakes are incredible!!! Buttercream raspberry was the one we had at the party we were at and we’ve also had other treats by her. My favorite are the homemade pop tarts!!! And the smores brownies! So so soooo good. It’s a total plus the owner is an incredible person and so outspoken for those in our community and state.”

2. SWIRL Dessert Bar

Address: 2822 South Blvd. B
Phone: +1 980 287 7366
Business Hours:
- Monday to Thursday – 5 PM to 10 PM
- Friday – 5 PM to 11 PM
- Saturday – 2 PM to 11 PM
- Sunday – 2 PM to 10 PM
SWIRL Dessert Bar is a spot that doesn’t leave anyone out—vegan, gluten-free, or VGF; they cover all the bases. And what’s wild is, for custom cakes, it’s a whole brand—Sugar & Storm—working right inside SWIRL.
We’ve chatted with the crew, and they’re obsessed with getting the tiniest detail right! Maria, who runs both the SWIRL and Sugar & Storm, seems to have a knack for knowing exactly what design will spark joy.
And we’ve seen them really work magic with pretty much any theme thrown at them. The cookie cakes and sandwich ice creams up front have a cult following (honestly, the crowd in-store proves it).
SWIRL also makes it simple for last-minute pickups by using appointment slots that actually run on time. We also appreciated the whole smooth process—customization, deadlines, and payments—so there were never awkward surprises.
Folks who’ve ordered before swear by the taste and say the cakes feel genuinely fresh, not just sugar bombs in disguise, although a few admitted the icing can get too sweet.
Delicious treats
“This restaurant was a last minute sugar fix for my 41st birthday. Please don’t tell my dietician. I tried some restraint in getting the birthday cake cookie and vanilla ice-cream which was delicious. There is a parking garage nearby by but you have to validate your parking in order for it to be free.”

3. Sweet Stuff by Leslie

Address: Boulware Ct.
Phone: +1 980 785 4448
Business Hours:
- By appointment
Leslie runs her Sweet Stuff from home, and while there’s no storefront or display case to browse through, it feels more like getting something special made just for the occasion.
She can make cupcakes, layer cakes, and even a giant chocolate chip cookie that’s actually a cake. This one, by the way, is as good as people say—it’s got fans who swear it outshines regular birthday cakes.
Leslie also works strictly by appointment, and everything is baked to order. This is great since there’s zero risk of dry or stale treats, though the flipside is a bit less convenience if last-minute sweets are the goal.
We’ve heard a lot from returning customers; it really seems like Leslie’s reputation rests on two things: impressive decorating—the piping and little touches get a ton of comments—and cakes that actually taste as good as they look.
The one thing to keep in mind is there’s no walk-in option, so it’s all about planning. But if the vibe is personal service, this is definitely a top recommendation.
Full of flavor cakes
“I have purchased so many cakes and cupcakes, from different bakery with 5 star reviews, only to be let down. Today, was different. When my daughters and I picked up these cups. we could feel Leslie’s energy, she was so polite and sweet with a beautiful smile. I told my 2 daughter, I feel these cupcakes are the ones. Moist, full of flavor, and the icing pure perfection! Such a treasure. Every one gift moving forward, will be Leslie’s cupcakes⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.”

4. Amélie’s French Bakery & Cafe

Address: 136 E 36th St.
Phone: +1 704 376 1781
Business Hours:
- Sunday to Thursday – 7 AM to 10 PM
- Friday and Saturday – 7 AM to 12 AM
Amélie’s French Bakery & Cafe is really about blending classic French techniques with a quirky, fun vibe. But the star attraction for cake hunters is easily the Macaron Gateau—a triple-decker macaron cake with layers of velvety filling, available in more than 10 flavors.
The folks we’ve spoken with keep mentioning the sheer creativity and added that those handmade cakes taste every bit as good as they look.
The menu doesn’t hold back beyond cakes: tarts, éclairs, and their famous macarons (which ship nationwide, by the way) practically beg for a home.
Now what people seem to love—after the sweets, of course—is that everything’s transparent: prices, flavors, the option to order or ship, and even a nicely illustrated gallery.
On the flip side, we and other regulars have noticed the staff sometimes seem a bit flustered and not always the quickest or warmest. Though this is probably because the place stays busy from open till close.
Great selection of pastries
“Super cute little cafe with a great selection of French pastry. We tried several things, some of them great (all the tarts are amazing!), some of them meh (chocolate items are slightly too sweet for our taste). Their decor is on point though, lots of great backgrounds for photos. Overall, we had a fun time trying the bake good but won’t be rushing back anytime soon.”

Helpful staff
“OMG!! The lady with the cute red bandana helped me change my order without issue. She was very helpful, very sweet, nice!!! Our order name was Tom and I had an amazing chicken salad. I wish I got her name but if you see this, I LOVE YOU!”

5. Villani’s Bakery

Address: 901 Pecan Ave.
Phone: +1 704 334 0550
Business Hours:
- Tuesday to Sunday – 7 AM to 10 PM
Right off the bat, we’ve noticed Villani’s Bakery’s styling isn’t about over-the-top fondant sculptures. They’re all about those flawless drips, neat lettering, and just the right amount of sprinkles.
Custom orders are easy to set up, and loads of people swear by their cake tastings as the best way to choose a flavor. Even so, we appreciated how the staff took the time to discuss the flavors available, allergy info, and even how tall each cake is.
Celebration cakes need a couple of days’ notice, but wedding cakes are another story. We’ve learned that people need to book four to eight months out, so spontaneous weddings are out of luck here.
Now, aside from custom orders, there are always ready-made cakes from the case, which is a lifesaver for last-minute celebrations. If there’s one flavor that gets all the local buzz, it’s got to be their Pineapple Upside-Down Cake.
Service mostly gets good reviews, though; we have seen and heard that handling complaints gracefully isn’t always their strong point.
Excellent cake designs
“So many options of high quality pastries and desserts! The red velvet cake is the best I’ve ever had. I was so impressed. I bought about 8 different items just so I can try more than one and will be back to buy about 20 more because there were so many different things that made my mouth water. Paul has done an amazing job making it from scratch and the flavor and presentation are proof that he is a master at his craft. The staff were friendly and very helpful, also patient with me as I had difficulty choosing only a few things for the day.”

Friendly and welcoming staff
“I absolutely love Villani’s Bakery! I’ve been going there for a while now, and their pastries never disappoint. The key lime pie and lobster tails are amazing, and the red velvet cake is my absolute favorite. Villani’s is my go-to place for pastries, and I always choose them and recommend them to my friends and family. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming, which makes every visit even better!”
