The 5 Best Real Estate Lawyers in Charlotte for a Smooth Property Transaction!

real-estate-lawyers-in-charlotte
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Credentials: A real estate lawyer must have in-depth knowledge and local expertise, ensuring they know the regulations in the area.

Specialisation: We prioritised lawyers who focus on real estate law to make sure they know the ins and outs of complex matters.

Practice Areas: Working on both residential and commercial real estate is a massive advantage that can accommodate more clients in Charlotte.

Responsiveness: The lawyers must maintain clear communication to avoid delays and misunderstandings.

Availability: Real estate issues don’t pick a schedule, so it’s imperative for the lawyers to be available during crucial moments so that all problems are promptly addressed.

Fee Transparency: Hiring a lawyer isn’t going to be cheap, but to avoid surprise charges, a clear fee structure is needed so the client knows exactly what they need to pay for.

In North Carolina, we’re all required to have a closing attorney. Sure, not all states do, but when you think about it, hiring a lawyer can make the whole process easier and ensure legal compliance.

Closing a sale is stressful, both for the buyer and seller. And when you have a not-so-competent real estate lawyer handling the closing of a family home, the transaction will be even more frustrating—believe me, I’ve been there.

We know better now. So after tons of research, my team and I finally have our list of the best real estate attorneys in Charlotte, whether you’re a buyer, seller, or borrower!

One of the real estate attorneys we trust in Charlotte is Calvin Armstrong, a founding partner at Norwood, Armstrong & Stokes, PLLC. He’s an experienced one, having been recognized by the Business North Carolina Legal Elite 2021.

When it comes down to real estate law, he knows the ropes. He specialises in it, rather than being a general practitioner.

His specialization gives him more than enough experience to handle basic and complex matters, including property disputes. For example, he works on residential and commercial real estate, with a main focus on the closing process.

His knowledge of the local community extends to the whole state, making him qualified for those moving to Charlotte.

From what we’ve seen, he and his staff know how to do things right, as he’s provided smooth closing processes. He was also noted to be professional yet personable, which kept clients at ease during stressful situations.

Quick to get us all the paperwork we needed

“We closed on a house back in April. We had a short 30 day closing window. The firm was quick to get us all of the paperwork we needed to expedite the process. Our paralegal even went above and beyond to drive to the sellers house to receive signatures because they were unable to make it to closing due to an injury. The staff is extremely professional and helped us through every step of the way. We were first time home buyers and felt so at ease through the entire process. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and the attorney was super helpful with explaining every document. They even met our needs with needing an early closing time due to work. Highly recommend using this firm! You will not be disappointed!!”

One of the most experienced real estate lawyers we trust is none other than Elyse B. Johnson, a managing member of EBJ Law. She has previous experience working for other firms, until she opened her practice.

What caught our attention was her client-focused approach, although we admit hearing reports of communication gaps, which isn’t the best when you’re on a real estate deadline. But it’s not like her staff never responds, just slightly late when they’re packed.

On a good note, the overall process here has been excellent, as the firm uses advanced technology. Basically, Johnson and her staff use tools to smooth out the workflow and speed things up.

Since she caters to residential and commercial real estate, from property purchases to quitclaim deeds, she gets busy. But don’t worry, the law firm always has a real estate attorney available for inquiries.

The most exciting part has to be her fees, which we found to be reasonable for Charlotte.

Pros

  • Client-focused approach
  • Uses advanced technology
  • A lawyer’s always present for queries
  • Reasonable pricing

Cons

  • Some communication gaps

Blown away by the professionalism

“I recently closed a deal where I represented the buyer and my buyer chose this law firm. As a professional real estate agent I was blown  away with the professionalism displayed from this firm the whole entire process!”

-Michelle Wilkinson, Google Review

Always a pleasure to work with

“Elyse and her team are always a pleasure to work with. Our firm (Highgarden Real Estate) goes to EBJ first and foremost to handle our clients most important transactions, and they deliver great results, communicate throughout the process, and handle difficult situations with experience and knowledge. Can’t recommend them highly enough!”

If you’re buying or selling a home, Hal Berger is a real estate lawyer in Charlotte worth a shot. His extensive background, including being a Certified Public Accountant for two decades, gives him the know-how of the tax side of real estate.

In addition, his time in the business industry gives him an understanding of commercial real estate properties. Add all that on top of his vast knowledge of residential and commercial real estate in Charlotte, and he’s solid.

It’s not his sole expertise, though, so you might find him a bit busy at times. It’s not a big issue, honestly, since the firm’s strong customer service didn’t go down—he and his staff provided clear communication and excellent attention to detail.

During our surveys, most clients—both buyers and sellers—mentioned the smooth and efficient process. Berger led the effort to ensure everything went to plan, whether it was about property disputes or simple closings, which is impressive overall.

Pros

  • Has an accounting and business background
  • Strong customer service
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Smooth and efficient

Cons

  • Real estate law isn’t the sole expertise

Steadfast, kind, and consummately professional

“Hal Berger is steadfast, kind, and consummately professional.  He worked tirelessly with us through challenging times on a complicated Partition case, and never wavered.  Hal knows the law, does his research, and communicates clearly.  He is collaborative and outlines multiple solutions to problems.  For me though, Hal Berger’s greatest attributes are empathy and positivity.  Because of his patience and guidance, our case was resolved successfully.”

-Bronwyn Springer, Google Review

Extremely professional and responsive

“Hal was recommended to me by my broker. I actually frowned on it in the beginning. I am so glad I decided to use him. Hal was extremely professional and responsive. In fact, we did my closing in record time! He made you feel like he was working as hard as you do. I highly recommend him to anyone.”

We appreciate a real estate lawyer who can accommodate non-English speakers, which is one of the reasons we chose Claudia Soto. She speaks English and Spanish, accommodating newcomers to Charlotte.

In addition, she’s a managing partner with a focus on real estate, business law, and estate planning. Her accessibility includes catering to residential and commercial real estate, including buyers, sellers, borrowers, lenders, and builders.

Conveniently, she and her team have three offices in the Charlotte Metro Area. But what truly stands out is that her service includes cultural awareness, where she can provide legal advice for clients who want to move to a community that shares their culture.

It’s not all rosy, unfortunately, since some clients had a couple of issues regarding communication, mainly when the firm’s staff were too busy. We get it, it happens, but it’s still a bummer.

On a good note, her real estate services never faltered. The clients we spoke with appreciated how smooth the legal procedures were, even at crunch time.

Pros

  • Bilingual lawyer
  • Has three Charlotte offices
  • Culturally informed legal advice
  • Highly accessible

Cons

  • Some communication mishaps

Everyone we’ve worked with has been friendly, helpful, and professional

“We’ve worked with Soto Law twice this year.  The first time was with Claudia, who was the closing attorney for the home refinancing we did.  We had such a great experience, that we reached out to them for their estate planning services as well.  Emily was our attorney who helped us with the estate planning, and she was fantastic.  Everyone we’ve worked with at Soto Law has been friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and professional.  We’ve already recommended them to several of our friends.”

-Stephen Vullo, Google Review

Friendly, flexible, and had a constant line of communication

“We had our second closing with Soto Law and yet again we were very pleased with Angela (paralegal) and Claudia (attorney). They were friendly, flexible, and had a constant line of communication. They respond quickly, the closing was extremely easy, and Claudia answers every single one of our questions so detailed and makes sure we understand the process. They are very personable. We will continue to use Soto Law for future transactions.”

5. Sarah Lucente – Kunkleman & Lucente PLLC

Practice Areas: Residential and commercial real estate

Address: 4500 Cameron Valley Pkwy #370

Contact: 704-626-6799, [email protected]

Hours: Monday – Friday: 8:30 am – 5 pm

Website

With a focus on real estate, Sarah Lucente is an attorney who knows the legalities of house buying and selling. She graduated in North Carolina and has been practicing since 2009, giving her the nitty-gritty of local real estate.

She caters to residential and commercial real estate in Charlotte. Her local knowledge has proven effective, whether the problem requires a simple fix or something more complex.

One of her most standout qualities is her flexibility, which most clients noted helped speed up the process. She always updates her clients, which ensures there are no issues before closing.

Communication-wise, we give her a 5/5. We appreciate the helpful notes and for always being clear about the process, from title searches to property disputes.

But since the firm has a small team, it can be tough to accept new cases when they’re swamped. Still, they’re fairly consistent when responding to clients.

Pros

  • Only focuses on real estate law
  • Equipped with local knowledge
  • Flexible schedule
  • Always responsive

Cons

  • Small team at the firm

All have been wonderful experiences

“I have had three closings with KuLu and all have been wonderful experiences. On our most recent transaction Sarah, Holly, and Mary Claire worked around the clock to ensure we had a successful closing and that everything was taken care of, including workarounds when the county systems went down. They are overly professional and communicate consistent updates to all parties throughout the process.. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!”

-Chris Foreman, Google Review

They go out of their way

“Greg and Sarah do great work. I’ve had 2 closings with them and each time I feel informed and comfortable. They go out of their way along with the paralegal to make sure you are taken care of with your real estate closings so nothings swept under the rug.”

-Tyler Carnahan, Google Review
